Chicagoland Owners Land Trust
Starting in 2015, CCLF collaborated with affordable housing leaders to establish a community land trusts model that can be replicated in any community. A community land trust (CLT) is a nonprofit corporation that holds land on behalf of a place-based community, while serving as the long-term steward for affordable housing, community gardens, civic buildings, commercial spaces and other community assets on behalf of a community.
Chicagoland Owners Land Trust Federation – or COLT is a coalition of community land trusts across the Chicago area who have joined together to further their common goals. These CLTs are united by a mission to build community ownership of land in order to preserve affordable housing and commercial opportunities for residents as prices increase. Through COLT, the community land trusts adopted a federation model so that each CLT would have their voices equally heard. CCLF serves as COLT’s convener facilitating meetings and providing a growing list of resources and funding opportunities for federation partners.
